On your marks...get set...GO!
This week's theme is going to center around Maison's Pinewood Derby. We have been doing this for a few years now, and we have learned a very important lesson...NEVER try to be the fastest car! Our eyes were opened to the world of Derby races our very first year. We let Maison pretty much build and paint his very own car, and we were super proud of him! However on weigh-in night it was apparent that quite a few kids did not build their own car! Needless to say, we all left that night a little disappointed! However, we came up with a plan that has seemed to workout very well for him since. He gave up on trying to be the fastest and focused on winning a more "doable" category. Every year there are other categories that can be entered and won. Examples include: Best Hawkeye Car, Most Patriotic, Best Scout Theme, Scout's Favorite, etc. The first year, Maison decided to go with a SpongeBob car and it won the Scout's Favorite Award. Each scout casts a vote for his favorite, and no one can vote for their own. Last year Maison focused on The Best Scout Theme and won that as well. He is not sure what SpongeBob will be this year, but he'll start his process this week! Can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve!
